Kaisercraft Tuesday Tutorial - Mermaid Tails and Always and Forever Collections

Hi everyone, Cathy here sharing my Kaisercraft DT projects for the month, as well as a step by step layout tutorial using the lovely ‘Mermaid Tails' and the newly released ‘Underwater’ Stamp and Die Set as well as one of the new Decorative Word Dies.

“Young Wild and Free” Step by Step Layout Tutorial
Tutorial MT LO
Kaisercraft Product:  Mermaid Tails – Paper – P2079 Dolphin x2, P2082 Sea Turtle, P2084 Sea Foam | SS313 12x12 Sticker Sheet | CT855 Collectables | CS263 Mermaid Tails Stamp Set | GC111 Glitter Cardstock – Frost | DD155 Decorative Die Words – Young Wild and Free | DD917 Decorative Die and Stamp Set – Underwater | IT904 Designer Template – Fading Dots | KM105 Kaisermist – Turquoise | RS402 Rhinestones - Island Lagoon | T331 Sanding Block | T303 Foam Tape | Other Product: DM-1MM2M02 Derivan Matisse Impasto Medium | embossing powder, superfine glitter

How gorgeous are the shades of teal and mauve in this collection… so pretty!! and the Glitter Cardstock is to die for and just happens to go beautifully with this underwater themed collection, by adding a touch of sparkle that you would see in the ocean waves shining on a beautiful Summer’s day.
MT Tut 1
To create this layout, start by roughly tearing diagonally down from the top left to ¾ down to the bottom right of the Sea Foam pp.  This section will be rotated so that the 12” length of the corner will be on the left hand side of the layout.  Fussy cut the bottom coral section of the Sea Foam pp and cut into 2 sections.  From the remaining piece cut a section measuring 12cm long x 7cm high and tear on a diagonal – refer to photograph.
MT Tut 2Using the torn sections as a guide, roughly tear two pieces from the Frost Glitter Cardstock to create a second layer. Diecut the Young Wild and Free Decorative Die title from the Glitter Cardstock.
MT Tut 3
There is a lovely new release ‘Underwater’ Stamp and Die Set which matches beautifully with the ‘Mermaid Tails’ Collection.  I have stamped the seaweed fronds and one of the tropical fish with Versamark on the teal green section of the ‘Dolphin’ pp and embossed with silver embossing powder.  I have also used the coral section from the Mermaid Tails Stamp Set which I stamped 3 times, then embossed in silver and fussy cut.  Cut the coral sections into pieces, refer to photograph.
MT Tut 4
Using the photograph as a guide, adhere the torn glitter sections under torn sections of the mauve corners.  Adhere 3 sides of the large and small torn corners to the mermaid side of the ‘Dolphin’ pp. leaving the torn side free, so that you can tuck in the fussy cut and stamped sections.  The ‘Dolphin’ pp will be turned upside down so that the mermaid is covered over and you only see the teal green section of the paper.  If you want to reuse the pretty mermaid section, use the corner to mark where to tear before adhering your corners.  If you are not saving, the large corner is adhered to the top left and the smaller corner to the bottom right.
Arrange the fussy cut coral sections, silver stamped sections and the mauve coral diecut from the matching Collectables under the torn edges.  When you are happy with positioning, adhere with tape.
MT Tut 5
Using the dots section from the Christmas Quarters Template, mask around the coral with Impasto Medium and whilst wet, sprinkle with glitter.  Shake off excess and dry with heat gun.

Splatter turquoise Kaisermist around the coral.  The fine splatters can be achieved by applying mist to an old toothbrush, and flicking the mist by drawing your finger over the brush.  Have a little practice first, to get an idea of how to direct the flicks where you would like them on your background.

Using the photo as a guide, adhere your photo, seaweed and fish stamped diecuts, and the strip from the bottom of the ‘Sea Turtle’ pp with foam tape and the Glitter diecut title with glue.

Pre-sand the edges of the seahorse diecut collectable and the seashell sticker border to make them pop.  Tuck in seahorse and seashell collectables and adhere with foam tape.  Adhere the seashell sticker border under the phrase strip and the Live Love Dream Sticker to the side of the seaweed with foam tape.  Randomly adhere the island lagoon rhinestones around the coral borders.  I decided to add the little  stamped and embossed diecut tropical fish created with the Underwater Stamp and Die set to the bottom right corner and stamped some of the bubbles coming out of his mouth... too cute!!

To finish off I have lightly sanded around the edges of my layout with the Sanding Block to create a grungy white border.

Hope you enjoyed my tutorial and that perhaps it has inspired you to create your own version of this layout :)

I have created a Birthday and Thank You card with the Mermaid Tails Collection and again teamed it with the new Glitter Cardstock for a bit of added sparkle and shine.  This glitter cardstock diecuts beautifully and the best bit is no messy glitter to clean up!!

The second release for this month is the gorgeous ‘Always and Forever’ rustic and romantic themed Collection which perfectly captures the true meaning of everlasting love.

“You Make My Heart Smile” Layout
AF Layout
You don’t necessarily need to create a romantic layout with this collection.  As you can see, I decided to create a layout showing how much my daughter means to me, by using an overall heart theme, teamed with gorgeous roses and doilies diecut Collectables and Stickers.  I fell in love the the beautiful foil paper from the 6.5” matching Paper Pad and used this with the Heart Frame Embossing Folder to create the main heart embellishment.  I also used the embossing folder to add some texture to the heart diecuts from the Collectables, which I lightly sanded to create a distressed shabby look.  The foil paper was also used with the Vintage Keys Decorative Die.

Keeping in theme with the hearts I masked my background with metallic champagne metallic paste and the new ‘Love’ Designer Template.  Once dry I applied mist by spraying onto a piece of acetate then applying to my background paper to create a mottled shabby effect, and finished off by randomly stamping with the PS I love you stamp from the matching stamp set.

“I Love you” Diamond Fold Card
AF Folded Card front
You may have noticed that I have been playing around with various folded box cards this month and I was having so much fun, that I decided to make another.  This one has an origami feel to it and opens up to reveal a greeting and is secured with a belly band.  I found this tutorial created by Beate Johns at Splitcoast Stampers http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/diamondfoldcard/.
AF Folded Card open
All you need is the 6.5 inch paper pad and a bit of cardstock to create the simple version of this card.  I chose to use the collectables to embellish the belly band, but you could easily fussy cut your own embellishments from the paper pad.  The front panels of the card were embossed with the pretty Butterfly Flourish embossing folder, then lightly sanded to make the embossed detail pop.

I received one of the new Standing Word beyond the page pieces in my kit this month. I have covered this in paper from the Always and Forever Collection and left it fairly clean and simple, but it could be jazzed up to create a gorgeous centre piece for a wedding.
