Guest Design Spot for ArtDeco Creations - L'Aquarelle Collection

Hi everyone, my name is Cathy Cafun and I am so happy to have been invited by Artdeco Creations to be the Guest Designer for the month of May.

A little bit about me:
I live in Brisbane, Queensland and was introduced to Paper Crafting 11 years ago.  Since then it has become an all-consuming passion and is a large part of my daily life.

If I had to describe my style, I would say it is predominantly shabby chic/romantic, but I am very partial to the grungy distressed look when creating masculine layouts.  My pages, cards and BTP projects always have elements of texture and dimension and I find any form of mixed media, fussy cutting, layering and distressing a wonderful way to achieve this.

I hope I am able to inspire you with my creations using the beautiful L'Aquarelle Collection of co-ordinating papers, dies, embossing folders and stamps.
Today I am sharing a layout and was inspired by the gorgeous purple toned flowers on one of the papers from the 12x12 L'Aquarelle Paper Pad, which has a beautiful array of 24 different flora and fauna vintage themed designs (2 of each design) with lovely co-ordinating watercolour background papers.

"You Are Beautiful Inside and Out" Layout

I started by using the L'Aquarelle Rolling Mesh Stencil design to mask my background with Anna Griffin Embossing Paste, and whilst the embossing paste was still wet I sprinkled with Couture Creations white glitter from the Be Merry Collection, which is superfine and gives a lovely shimmer effect.
For a distressed/shabby look, I tore a section of text print paper, then tore a few smaller mauve pieces to layer underneath, which I embossed with the Antiquity Embossing Folder.  I also used the sanding block to sand the edges of the Inspiration Card.

One of my favourite techniques is fussy cutting, so when I spied these beautiful mauve flowers, they were calling out to be fussy cut.  It is fiddly, but well worth the effort!!  I also fussy cut some stamped and clear embossed fern leaves from the Fern Flowers and Flourish Stamp Set and a butterfly from the Spread Your Wings Stamp Set.

To add a touch of contrast to my flower clusters and to tie in with the masked background I die cut the Chirping in the Eaves Background Die from white cardstock and cut out the 2 sweet little birds.
I love to add white accents to add a touch of softness to my layouts.  I altered a few of the Jewelled Florettes by adding touches of glue to the edges of the petals, then dusting with white glitter.  I also used the Turbo Glue Pen to adhere some Prills to the flower centres to add a bit of texture.

"LOVE" Card
The watercolour papers in the collection are so pretty, that I decided to create a card by layering the mauve and aqua green pp's, then sanding the edges for a soft and dreamy look.

To keep in theme with the soft and dreamy look, I diecut the Floral Bunting Background Die to use as a stencil to mask the top right and bottom left of my card.  I then layered one of the Inspiration Cards and a fussy cut butterfly to the centre, then topped the butterfly with a metal embellishment from the Metal Framed Trinkets and Cabochons Pack.
To create a few embellishments for my clusters,  I diecut 2 of the Watercolour Bloom Die in white cardstock, then altered by coating with Madagascar Liquid 3D Pearl Drops mixed with a touch of water.  I also stamped a couple of flowers from the Fern Flower and Flourish Stamp Set in black ink, embossed, then fussy cut.
To finish off, I used the left over watered down 3D Pearl mix to lightly splatter around the flower clusters.

I hope you enjoyed my 2 projects created with the beautiful L'Aquarelle Collection.  Keep an eye out next week for a couple more projects.

Thanks so much for stopping by and happy crafting.

Kaisercraft DT Creations - Sailing Into Summer

Hi Everyone,
Today I am sharing my projects created with the 2 gorgeous New Release collections Provincial and Sail Away.
I adored working with both of these collections… Provincial which is the perfect range for me with its soft and dreamy shabby style mixed with beautiful rustic themed papers… the best of both worlds!!  Then you have the beautiful nautical styled Sail Away collection, just in time for Summer!!

 “You Are Beautiful” Layout
For those of you who are familiar with my work, you would know that I am in my element when it comes to creating with pretty feminine papers, so I was thrilled to see this range in my DT parcel.  It has a lovely old world rustic feel in pretty blues and greens with gorgeous florals, foliage and vintage elements.
I have pulled out my scissors to create this layout as the floral accents are perfect for fussy cutting.  I also used the large flower cluster on the sticker sheet and leafy collectables to frame my photo.
How yummy is that cobblestone paper, again my scissors were drawn to fussy cut sections of this pp to create a couple of  border strips.
Kaisercraft Product: Provincial - Paper – P1971 Hydrangea, P1973 Mail, P1976 Toile, P1978 Cobblestone | CT843 Collectables | SS299 12x12 Sticker Sheet | Wooden Flourishes – FL526 Fancy Corners, FL305 Frames | ST929 Clear Stickers – Inspirational | CS853 Texture Stamp - Flutter | T331 Sanding Block | T303 Foam Tape | Other: ink, button, twine

 “Happy Birthday” Card
This card pretty pop up birthday card was created with one of the recently released Pop Up Dies called “Best Wishes”.

Kaisercraft Product: Provincial - Paper - P1971 Hydrangea | PP984 6.5” Paper Pad | SS299 12x12 Sticker Sheet | Decorative Dies – DD538 CC Best Wishes Pop Up, DD521 Die Cut Shapes, DD101 Lacey Borders | EF229 Embossing Folder – Postmarks | EM931 Pearl Brads – Latte | EM926 Lace Pack – White | IP733 Ink Pad - Vine | CD511 C6 Card Pack – White | T331 Sanding Block | T303 Foam Tape

 “Thankful” Card
I created this card using the blue tones from the Paper Pad for a monochromatic look.
Kaisercraft Product: Provincial - Paper - P1974 Hampton | PP984 6.5” Paper Pad | CT843 Collectables | SS299 12x12 Sticker Sheet | KM106 Kaisermist – Denim | EM933 Pearl Brads – Soft Blue | CD511 C6 Card Pack – White | KC001 Kaisercolour Paint – White | T331 Sanding Block | T303 Foam Tape

The Sail Away Collection, with its nautical theme has a masculine feel to it, which is great for those of you who struggle to find pp’s to scrap photos of the men/boys in your life, but this range also works just as well for feminine layouts.  Here, I have created one of each, to show you how versatile this collection is.

 “Adventure” Layout
Found this old photo of Luke aged 3 at Caloundra Beach… omg isn’t he so cute with his little spade!!  How perfect do the colours match this paper range!
I love using embossing folders to create texture on my layouts and have used the new Anchors Embossing Folder to frame the left-hand side of my photo.
I have always used sandpaper to grunge up and distress my layouts an  I think I have mentioned before, that I adore the new sanding blocks and this tool has now become a firm favourite.  I love sanding back pp’s to reveal the core white colour to add contrast and dimension and have sanded back the embossed anchors to make them pop.
I also like sanding the edges of my collectables and diecuts, to add a little dimension to my elements.
Kaisercraft Product: Sail Away - Paper – P1980 Ship, P1984 Lighthouse, P1985 Rope, P1986 Starfish, P1987 Cruise | CT844 Collectables | SS300 12x12 Sticker Sheet | CS244 Stamp Set | EF231 Embossing Folder – Anchors | DD104 Decorative Die – Anchor |  KM106  Kaisermist - Denim | CS153 Texture Stamp - Hessian |  T331 Sanding Block | T303 Foam Tape | Other Product:  archival ink

“Explore” Layout
Another old photo from our beach holidays, this time it's Brittany playing in the sand at Mudjimba Beach... another perfect match for these papers… don’t you think!!  I am on a roll!
I have used the newly released Nautical Quarters Template on my background by masking the compass with modelling paste and outlining with a blue fineliner pen.  To make the making pop I spritzed with water, then applied some red Kaisermist with a brush.  Once dry, I randomly stamped  around the masking with the Tiny Dot Texture Stamp.
Another new release this month are a range of gorgeous dies to accent both ranges.  On this page I have used the Anchors Decorative Die which comes with 2 cute anchors dangling on chains.  I cut it in navy pp to become part of my cluster underneath my photos.
Kaisercraft Product: Sail Away - Paper – P1980 Ship, P1982 Anchor, P1986 Starfish, P1987 Cruise | PP985 6.5” Paper Pad | CT844 Collectables | SS300 12x12 Sticker Sheet | DD341 Decorative Die – Anchors | T627 Template – Nautical Quarters | KM109 Kaisermist – Red | Wooden Flourishes FL543 -  Fancy Borders, FL419 Compass | CS151 Texture Stamp - Tiny Dot | T331 Sanding Block | T303 Foam Tape | Other Product:  DM-1MM2M32 Derivan Matisse Light Modelling Paste, archival ink

 “Anchors Away” Card
This card was created using matching Paper Pad and the new C6 Anchors Decorative Die.  I cut the die in smooth white cardstock for the background then cut in navy paper from the Paper Pad, to add the contrast anchors. I also used the new Anchors Decorative Die which I cut out in cork to add a bit of texture.
Kaisercraft Product: Sail Away - Paper - P1988 Map | PP985 6.5” Paper Pad | Decorative Dies – DD341 Anchors DD730 Anchors C6 | CB152 12x12 Cork Sheets | CS151 Texture Stamp - Tiny Dot |  CD650 Cardstock – Smooth White | CD512 C6 Card Pack – Kraft | T331 Sanding Block | T303 Foam Tape | Other Product: metal charm, ink
