A Few Challenges

We went out to a party 2 weeks ago and as I was feeling pretty I decided to let hubby take some pics of Brittany and I. You all know I hate having my photo taken as I always end up thinking they look awful and I can't pose and look natural, anyway on this rare occasion I love how the photos came out so I have done 2 challenge LO's with them!!

Show Us Your Stuff - Together

This is my 1st time creating a LO for SUYS. I'm always checking out the beautiful hand made embellishments on all the gorgeous LO's here, so I finally decided to have a go.

The criteria was to include:

stiching (hand, machine or faux), misting, buttons, 4 or more patterned papers and something handmade.

Used some Ruby Rock It, 2x Crate Paper and Jenni Bowlin pp's with some Scrapmatts butterflies with I painted and stamped with smooch ink. The title is an old Daisy D rubon... so love these!! I hand dyed the doily lace and made some hand made flowers with black lace and corduroy brads. I misted with scarlet glimmermist around the photos and added some black machine stitching. There are buttons in the centre of my hand cut flowers on the bottom left.

Bon's Jan Sketch Challenge - Love

Here is the sketch for this month sketch challenge over at Bon's . You must pop on over and check them out. The gallery is so inspiring with all that amazing talent. The challenge is this sketch by the lovely Tara. The extra criteria are:

Use 2 photos, matted & both smaller than 6x4, hand written journaling direct onto cardstock and some stripes.

I purchased quite of few of these gorgeous MME Lost & Found pp's and decided to use one for this LO. In case you were wondering my stripes are on the pleated pp ruffle. I'm not terribly keen on my hand writing, but I'm glad these challenges are pushing me to get over my phobia. My journaling reads "Brittany, when I was pregnant with you, I wished so very hard for a girl, and my wish came true. I am so very blessed to have you in my life. Love you."

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave some love. I love all your gorgeous comments :)

Flutterby

The Colour Room #42

This week at TCR you were able to lift your fav DT artist and I chose Leeann Pearce as I love her funky designs and playful details. I lifted her use of layered strips and her cool string frames. I recently took these pics of some gorgeous blue butterflies in my garden and thought they would be perfect for this palette.

Used a mix of pp's with lots of punches and doily trim. The large butterfly is from a paper napkin. I misted and splattered glimmer mist & some blue metallic paint and hand made some rolled flowers, then finished off with some grungy machine stitching.

Challenge Reminders!!!

Don't forget you only have 4 days left to get your challenges in for:

Kraft It Up - Use Kraft with a summertime theme and a Summertime word in your title.

White With One - White and Navy or Royal Blue with a banner

My 1st Bons Scrap Challenge

Jan Paper of the Month - Pretty as a Picture

Decided to have a go at my 1st challenge over at Bon's Scraps and chose The Paper of the Month Challenge as I had this Sassafras Lass paper in my stash.

Used the SL pp with some Pink Paislee Sweetness as I thought they went really well together. Had to add some Prima flowers of course and some hand dyed lace & twine. The gorgeous yellow butterflies were purchased from a discount store for $2!! I decided to add some hand written journaling which is something I don't do very often as I hate my hand writing.. it reads "Brittany, you are my beautiful muse".

Stuck Sketches - Jan 1

I Adore You

I have been very busy and have not had too much time for scrapping, but I managed a quick one for Stuck Sketches which was a nice and simple sketch.

Snapped these very recent pics of Brittany which I adore and decided to scrap them. Used BG Figgy Pudding for background which I glimmer misted with scarlet and stamped over with a Fontwerks clear stamp. The strips are some hand cut MME Lush flocked pp & Carolees Creations pp which was punched with an EK Success Acanthus border punch. I gathered some vintage organza lace and tucked it underneath the punched border. Finished with some MME Lost and Found diecut embellishments & Prima flowers.

You Make My Heart Happy

TCR # 41

Have finished my stint as a Revolving Door Artist at The Colour Room. I had such of fabulous time and it was so much fun. The palettes really took me out of my comfort zone... I only had one bright palette out of the four!!!

This weeks palette has some yummy colours, but I didn't have quite the right pp's so I decided to focus on the gorgeous Prima blossoms for my colour. I dragged Brittany outside to take a few pics as we have the most beautiful Geisha bushes with the sweetest little purple blossoms which I thought would go beautifully with this palette. She hasn't been happy with me lately as I have been dragging her all around the surrounding streets to take pics of all the gorgeous flowers that are blossoming at the moment. What can I say I LOVE flowers!!

I misted the white Bazzill cardstock with Tattered Angels strawberry shortcake chalkboard ... these mists come up beautifully!! I found an old Daisy D pp in purple and the frame around the photo is also from Daisy D. I decided to stamp the heart with black stazon on acetate to get a lovely deep black and finished with a few Kaiser pearls and CI epoxy butterflies.

Meeting Colleen

I had a lovely time today meeting Colleen B, who stopped by for a visit with her family while she was here on holiday. It's always wonderful to meet someone you have chatted to online in real life. We spent the afternoon through til the evening chatting away while Brittany kept the children entertained on the Playstation. Unfortunately I don't have a photo to share as yet as Colleen snapped one just as she was leaving, but will email me a copy when she gets home... mind you I had a look and I have to say it wasn't a flattering photo of me at all, but Colleen looks lovely!!

Sneaky Peaks

Here is a little peak of some work for a guest spot that I will be able to show you in Feb.

Annas Sketch Challenge

Flood Update

Haven't really been in the mood for scrapping this past week. Have been watching the news updates on all the flooding in Queensland and trying to contact friends and family to make sure they are all OK. It's been a very traumatic time for so many people. I have been having a tidy up at home to donate gear for all the victims of the floods who have lost absolutely everything and will need to start again. Fortunately we have had some clear weather for the last few days, which means the community is able to get on with the job of cleaning up... it's so uplifting to see everyone coming together to help each other out in such a difficult time.

Thanks so very much to everyone for all your kind thoughts and messages checking up on us to see if we were OK... there are so many kind and loving people in our scrapping community... I can't tell you how touched we were.

If you would like to extend a helping hand to the people effected by the floods here in QLD, please check THIS LINK for details.

Jan Sketch Challenge - "Such a Gentleman"

Thought I would try a little scrapping last night and decided to give Anna's sketch challenge a whirl this month. This is the 1st time I have taken part in one of Anna's Craft Cupboard's challenges. I wasn't sure if I was in the mood, but once I started it was lovely to be zoning out and focusing on being creative.

Have been meaning to get around to using this pic of Luke which was taken just as he was leaving for his semi-formal last year, looking very snazzy in a bright blue suit and a top hat. Used a few different pp's from Melissa Frances, Basic Grey, LYB & Glitz Design in navy, red & white. The embellies & rubons are Basic Grey, journal spots from Cosmo Cricket & Bella and of course a MS border punch and a touch of Kaiser bling for a bit of sparkle.

Exciting News!!

I had 2 LO's accepted for publishing in Scrapbooking Memories last week... that's 7 now and it's still just as exciting as being accepted for the 1st time.

Happy 18th Birthday Courtney :)

We went to an 18th birthday party for Courtney yesterday, who is the daughter of a very close family friend. Can't believe you are all grown up. HAPPY 18TH BIRTHDAY Courtney :)

Here is the card I made for Courtney. Had a lot of fun making this very feminine card... suits Courtney to a tee. Came together very quickly, which was a bonus, using up little scraps I keep in a container on my craft table.

Jan 123 Challenge

Major Flooding in Brisbane

We have the most terrible weather conditions here in Brisbane with major flooding in surrounding areas and flash floods in Toowoomba. I am fortunate that my home is on higher ground, so we are safe, but there are so many people who have suffered major damage to their homes and there is more to come over the next few days. My younger sister lives in Toowoomba and again she is very fortunately that her home is safe. The scenes of devastation shown on the news channels are just so shocking.

I would just like to say that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you who are going through this horrible situation and can only hope that the weather conditions subside soon.

Beautiful Inside & Out

I haven't had much time for scrapping lately, but did manage the Jan 123 Challenge, which was:

WORD: Beautiful

COLOUR: Purple

TECHNIQUE: Punching

I know there a quite a few of you out there who aren't too keen on the colour purple, but I love the colour, especially if you add a touch of green. I decided to alter this recent photo taken of Brittany by changing the flowers to purple to match the colour for this challenge.

Used some Kaisercraft, Prima pp's with some white tissue paper which I glimmer misted and glittered (looks much prettier IRL). I punched the borders of the background paper and a little white strip under the photo with some Martha Stewart border punches and also added some punched MS butterflies. Hand cut some Kaiser pp in the corners with a lovely Prima flower cluster and finished off with some kindyglitz highlights.

Let Your Light Shine Brightly

My Final TCR RDA Layout

This is my final palette as a Revolving Door Artist at The Colour Room. It's been so much fun and I'm so grateful to have had the experience. Pop on over for some amazing inspiration and a gorgeous colour palette to get the juices flowing!!

You all know I love my brights, so I was really challenged with 3 out of 4 of the palettes, as they were way out of my comfort zone... but I was so pleased with how they all came out.

Here is my take on this weeks palette. It took me a while to go through my stash to find the appropriate colours.

Ended up using some of the new BG Curio for the background with a Websters shaped pp and added a lace border for a bit of texture. The lovely hand cut damask paper is from Kaisercraft.

Spiffed up some gorgeous Maya Road clear doilies with some chippie buttons from the Chip Chop Shop, some fibres & a bit of bling. I couldn't go past adding a gorgeous flower cluster made from Prima, some gorgeous lace & ribbon flowers purchased overseas & some recycled bling buttons. Used a diecut chipboard flower stem from the BG Curio range and the sweet little stamped bird is from Inkadinkado.

STG - January

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Finished this LO for STG's last night. Have been meaning to scrap these pics of Brittany having fun from a few Summer's ago. Was playing around with my new camera trying to get Brittany in various stages of jumping... they came out OK but I got fantastic ones of her friend Chelsea mid-air... always the way!!

The challenge for January is:

Summer Loving - Scrap your favourite Summer memories or moments (girls only)

Just love the vivid colours in this old Rouge De Garance range... I still have a few pieces left. Really in your face colour. I pretty much just embellished the paper with Prima flowers and have used crochet flowers from Becci Sundberg with Kaiser brads. The main photo is backed with hessian, dyed doily lace, some knotted embroidery cotton and a Martha Stewart border & butterfly punch and the title is a Kaisercraft rubon.

I used the leftover pulled threads of hessian to give a bit of dimension to my flowers by tying them in a knot and placing them under the flowers.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving some love... :)

Favs for 2010

Have been a bit busy with DT commitments so I don't have a lot I can show ATM, so I decided to put up my favs for 2010.

I'd have to say that my work has really evolved in the last year. Becoming addicted to challenge sites was the best thing for my creativity as the challenges pushed me to think outside the square and try techniques and colours I wouldn't normally attempt. These fav LO's are from various challenge sites that have inspired me throughout the year. Bring on the challenges 2011!!
